Boston Common
Boston Common, the anchor for the Emerald Necklace, is America's oldest park, located in the heart of the city it covers roughly 50 acres. It was originally used as a common pasture for grazing cattle, and an area where the early militia would practice. Owned by the townspeople of Boston, the British actually used it as an army camp during the occupation of Boston. Since then the Common has been the site of hangings, duels, public celebrations. Highlights of the Park include the Frog Pond, Central Burying Grounds, Soldiers and Sailors Monument, Boston Massacre Memorial, and the Information Kiosk. The Playhouse Lounge is the theatre districts best-kept secret. Located at the Charles Playhouse. The Lounge caters mostly to patrons of Blue Man Group and Shear Madness before attending one of their performances. However the Lounge is always open to the public from 7pm till 2am Wednesday through Saturday. The Playhouse Lounge features live entertainment Friday and Saturday evenings from 10pm until 2am. While enjoying the live music or the jukebox, patrons can unwind at the copper bar, play a game of pool or just take pleasure in the relaxed atmosphere. Cutler Majestic Theater

Wilbur Theater

Clarence Blackall's sophisticated design incorporates a theatre within an office building. It presents a sedate and elegant exterior that conceals the surprise and scope of the elaborate decoration within Broadway. The enchanting interior, decorated by H. B. Pennell begins with a striking 70-foot-long vestibule. The walls are lined with Italian marble and the floor is a striking 40,000-tile crescent-design mosaic. The inner lobby is painted with an "extensive sequence of murals [which] are of their type and period unique in Boston," according to Boston historian Douglas Shand Tucci, "the walls and ceiling sparkle with gilt and mirrors."
